Pop Echo Records is pleased to announce the signing of rising Edmonton singer-songwriter Tim Gilbertson. Tim's full-length debut will hit shelves and iPods this summer.

At just 20 years old, Gilbertson has already impressed with his penchant for timeless power-pop hooks, inviting comparisons to the likes of Pinback, Modest Mouse, and the Weakerthans. The product of a musical family- mom plays piano, dad plays guitar, his sister is a music teacher, one brother is a drummer and the other plays guitar-Gilbertson's musical precociousness manifested itself early. He began playing guitar at age 8 and eventually worked his way through numerous high school bands. In 2005 Gilbertson set down a five song demo in his brother's Spruce Grove basement studio which led to a Craigslist rendezvous with Vancouver producer Andrew Shaw. Gilbertson and Shaw worked through the summer of 2006, eventually coming away with an 11-song LP. After months of shopping the album around, Gilbertson caught the ears of local label Pop Echo, who were as impressed by the young troubadour's crunchy pop ditties as they were by his maturity and ambition.

The eponymous debut LP from Tim Gilbertson will be released July 24, 2007 , on Pop Echo Records.

It's been a while. No photos right now, but the roll in the Holga's almost done. Pictures of my little nephew and other happenings.

I'm actually well along on the New new record. As in the one that hasn't been recorded yet. Not the one that just hasn't come out yet. I have probably 7 or 8 really good ones. I swear half of them have the term "sinners" in them. It's a theme, so to speak.

Here's a few nice tidbits that I like so far:

From Widows:

"The girls they all got thinner,

Where the Mayor can do no wrong.
Well it's just them goddamn sinners.
If only they weren't so goddamn strong."

Does rhyming strong with wrong with strong make me a hack? Get me the rhyming Beck-tionary.

From Sinners:

From Braces:

So yeah, they really aren't that great. But having 2 of 3 songs here with the word 'sinners' in them, not to mention one being named Sinners, kind of shows the direction I'm going.

I like the songs though, they're neat. Morgan's getting sick of them.

The one that's recorded and not out yet is getting there. It's being mastered now, and we're working on finalizing the artwork. Looking like summer, now.

Going to go learn how to skate again, ta.

Go buy a Holga 120s. They're precious little plastic cameras made in Hong Kong (if not faked somewhere else) that take the best pictures ever.

It's been a few years, but I've finally gotten the hang of it. I put cheap Safeway brand 35mm film in it by putting foam to hold in the cannister, and elastic bands to keep the film straight on the 120 roll. I've done it before, but these turned out especially well.

Damn, I guess that's what happens when you don't pay your bills. Didn't feel like renewing my timgilbertson.com and they shut me down! It took them about 2 weeks, but they got me. So now I have to deal with that, or make the label or whatever.

Oh yeah, got a label now. Cool huh?

I'm up in Grande Prarie for Thanksgiving this weekend.

The record's almost done. I can finally start calling labels.

I finally used the iTunes gift certificate that Morgan's mom bought me for my birthday! I bought Clap Your Hands Say Yeah's Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Sparklehorse's I Dreamt For Years In the Belly of a Mountain. Fun. It's hard though, I always want the actual copies of cds. Meh, just as good.

I figger'd that I haven't been posting enough as of late. Probably because I haven't been taking many pictures as of late. 2 more frames on this roll! Yeehaw!

New stuff:

The record (it's self-titled) is getting there. So far I've heard 7 early mixes. It sounds pretty good. I should be able to get some over there on MySpace and PureVolume soon.
Analogue is going to be in the new Premier Snowskate video. That'll be cool.
My jaw surgery is apparently not happening for 8-10 months, instead of now as I was told. Which means 8-10 months of extra braces. Sweet! I'm the coolest 13... I mean 19 year old around!
Morgan and I can finally start planning our trip to Havana. We're leaving at the end of January for 7 weeks. We'll spend 5 in Havana going to the University. Over the teeth, and past the gums, look out Socialism here I come!

Also on the horizon is possibly a new temporary job, and a trip to Victoria. Fun. Later.

Yeah, so I decided to put some 35mm in my Holga 'cause I'm cool like that. Plus the roll I bought for good picture taking was $18 and I don't want to waste it on being used. Yeah. So I developed them today, and scanned them in. The funny thing is that I bought the cheapest Safway brand film I could find ($8 for 3) but the grain is just awful. Chiggidy check yourself before you wriggidy wreck yourself.

Yeah, so I think I'll move. Allison and Mike have room in their much nicer place, so I think I'll live there for the month or so left in the semester.

This was on the way back from the Shuswap. I think it's around Blue River? Wherever the gnarly rapids are, except they were somewhat small this time.

This was rain in Monteverde. Who knew it rained so hard in the Rainforest?

Just our walk into town every day. There was a cat sunbathing on this roof before I took the shot, but it left before I could get my camera.

And of course finish it off with the most vain of all... A self-portrait. I wish I still had that hat, it was rad. I lost it somewhere.

I'm such an ass. I got way too drunk last night, and I'm way to unorganized to get this whole band thing going. Fuck.

Kurt and I rented surf boards from this place on the beach in Manuel Antonio.
This one is super old. I took it just before Eric and Marisa moved to Ottawa in 2004? I fixed it up a bit. I wish I could get my Holga working better, it takes such cool stuff. Either way it's a water pistol they took out of their car when they were loading up their stuff.
I might need to redo the contrast on this one, it looks a little washed out. Anyway, it's the hallway at the hostel in Liberia. Those lightbulbs were all red, it was kind of eerie. If you look closely you can see Kurt there.

Here's a picture of the beach in Manuel Antonio.

This is our dungeon door in Manuel Antonio. This place was honestly a jail. Except we didn't put the pad-lock on the dungeon door and someone stole my shorts. Man I was choked.

I think these islands were in Jaco, but I'm not sure. More likely Manuel Antonio, because all the other shots are from there. I can't remember where on the roll I scanned it from.

This is the wires sticking out of the shower in Liberia.
This is the fan in our room in Jaco that took out my surfboard. We were waxing them on my bed, and I picked it up and went to close the door and CRASH! nose of the board in the industrial strength fan. Then we went surfing!
I honestly have no idea where this picture was taken. It does say 'Jesucristo es mi senior!' on that building though.

Well I finally did it. I went out and bought a scanner that'll do film and slides. So I've been doing that tonight. Check it out! They're not really in order.

How 'bout I tell you a story about them okay?

This, of course, is the lovely Morgan at Playa Avellanas during a surf trip with the surf camp.

This is one that I like. It was a fence made of random pieces of metal in Puntarenas, Puntarenas, Costa Rica. Puntarenas was such a cool city.
This one again is Puntarenas. There was abandoned buildings everywhere! Basically a ghost town. Love was in the air.
And lastly (for now) there is Kurt in the hall in front of our room in Playa Jaco. Jaco wasn't a very nice place. Very very touristy and dirty (like tourist garbage). This place was nice though, run by a Canadian guy.

Fuck I'm an asshole. I still haven't taken any pictures in a long time.

However, I'm done my CD. I made 50 of the 100 CDRs I bought and have distributed almost all 50; I'll have to make more. I did send some to labels, but I'm not exactly confident in that. Step two is starting a band I guess. Problem is that I don't know a single person from Edmonton.

But I did manage to get my hands on Stars tickets today. They released some more so I snatched them up. I'll take some pictures there on sunday. I'll buy some really fast film, 3200 or something. Get some lovely art of that sexy Amy Millan.

Okay, I'll develop that 120. Deal?

Haven't done this in a while. Sorry, no pictures to post right now. I'm in Spruce Grove recording new songs. They turned out pretty well. So 4-5 newly recorded songs should be able to be heard soon.

In other news, I almost ruined my rolls of black + white from Costa via shitty old developer. They came out, just contrastless. I think I'll be able to get some good prints out of them anyway. Have to get a new bulb for the enlargers; both burnt out.

Holidays are coming to a close. I may have to go back to Hinton to work for UMA this weekend, but I'd rather stay here. It's a bitch going back and forth. Maybe I'll just chill out, wait for snow, and go skatedoarbing at avenue skatepark.

More from Manuel Antonio. Why won't bands come here? It seems like the only bands that come anymore are on stadium tours (Planet Smashers, DFA'79). Lame. I have to meet up the the guys in the city and get some filming done. I'll make a video this year. I have to get better use of my video stuff.
